Cody
Border Collie
My name is Mary P. and I have a 6 year old high energy Border Collie named Cody.
Cody injured his hind leg/paw in October 2003 by tearing a ligament loose while playing.
This was a grave situation because Cody is a competition Flyball dog that is highly rated
and has a bright future. He immediately was treated for his injury and a Veterinary
Orthopedic Specialist operated on his leg to repair the damage.
After the surgery came a
period or recuperation and healing that was not without problems and drawbacks.
Cody had a problem involving utilization of his leg after the healing period was completed.
He limped around and refused to let the leg operate or bear weight. At this time I
became aware of the program called Assisted Swimming at Kenl Inn, in Lincoln, Nebraska
and proceeded to contact Suzanne. An immediate rehabilitation effort was devised involving
two or more visits a week utilizing the Assisted Swim services. I believed that this would
loosen the tightened ligaments and improve the core strength that was lost during the disability
period.
Cody relentlessly swam and played in the pool during each visit, rebuilding the leg muscles and
increasing the strength of his overall condition. What seemed like playful fun to him actually
was concentrated rehabilitation. After a winter of this full time work (and play!!), Cody
returned to his Flyball Team in May 2004, and returned to tournament competition in July 2004 taking
FIRST PLACE!!!
He continues to enthusiastically swim at least twice a week, all year 'round, to stay in excellent
physical condition.
The staff at Kenl Inn has been a tremendous help in their relentless pursuit to rehabilitate Cody.
Without their caring support and efforts he would not be functioning as either a normal, playful
family dog, nor as a highly skilled Flyball Competitor. The Kenl Inn Assisted Swim program was a life
saver for Cody, it saved him from permanent disability.
